Usgam published an article by Dr. Mehmet Dikkaya headlined 'Russia-Georgia: Where did we stop?'
"Five years have passed since the Russian-Georgian war (...) For Georgia these years were marked by fear and decay in its relations with Russia," the article reads.
According to the author, a new period in Georgian history began when billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili became prime minister 6 months ago. The new head of cabinet showed right away that he was ready to be more flexible in bilateral relations.
However, Ivanishvili stressed that the United States would remain the country's major ally, as well as the European Union. This move showed that Georgia would not change its foreign policy dramatically, Dikkaya writes.
For its part, Russia made it clear that it was ready to lift the ban on Georgian import, prohibited during the 2008 war, the author notes.
The new configuration in the region may lead to a some kind of alliance between Russia, Armenia and Georgia, the author of the article concludes.
