Turkey's Islamist government is increasing pressure on the youth, an article by Marco Ansaldo published by La Repubblica reads.
"Yes" to headscraves and "no" to make-up and tatoos, as well as measures against selling iPhone 6. What is Turkey turning into? Turkey's Islamist government is increasing pressure on the youth, introducing new restrictions," the author writes.
"These actions threaten almost one half of the Turkish population - its liberal and secular part, which is devastated since it cannot produce a leader, who would be capable of questioning all-mighty Erdogan," the article reads.
"The Turkish society is returning to Middle Ages," Ansaldo cites the leader of the Turkish labour unions, Veli Demir, as saying. "Human Rights Watch has recently published 38-page report concerning the situation surrounding human rights in Turkey."
"According to the authors of the report, the situation in Turkey is degrading. The country needs serioues measures aimed at strengthening the freedom of speech, civil activism and the rule of law," La Repubblica writes.
