World Press on Iran, Turkey and the Caucasus (December 29, 2010)

The Los Angeles times quoted today the Israel's minister of strategic
affairs who said that technical difficulties have pushed back the
Iranian timetable for producing a nuclear weapon. Israel considers
Iran its most dangerous enemy because of its nuclear program, missiles
and calls for Israel's destruction. Iran also supports the anti-Israel
Hamas and Hezbollah militant groups.

The same agency reported that Iran on Tuesday executed a man accused
of spying for Israel and another for allegedly distributing CDs and
leaflets promoting an outlawed opposition group.

The Hurriyet published an article stating that Turkey is unaware its
policies are abused by Iran. When you look at Turkish-Iranian trade
relations, the imbalance is clear. Turkey's exports to Iran remain way
below Iranian exports to Turkey. The government's call to lower the
high customs has gone unheard. It is not hard to understand. As one
Turkish businessman is quoted in one of the U.S. cables sent from
Istanbul that were made public by Wikileaks, Iran is not moving in
favor of Turkey because it knows very well that Turkey will never walk
away.

Iranian press agency Press TV published an address of Iranian
spiritual leader saying that the Iranian nation succeeded to defuse
sedition incited by enemies after the June 2009 presidential election
in the country. Ayatollah Khamenei described as a "big challenge" the
last year's sedition and said, "In this big challenge, the enemy
supported sedition provokers on one hand and even announced their
names but on the other hand, the Iranian nation had a strong presence
in the scene," Ayatollah Khamenei underlined.

Also, the agency reports that Iran's Majlis (Parliament) has called on
the international community to take serious action against the
murderers of Iranian prisoner Ali-Reza Asgari in an Israeli prison.

Press TV also published a material suggesting that Britain is devising
a secret plan to evacuate hundreds of thousands of its residents and
tourists from the Persian Gulf region in case of a war against Iran.
According to the article, Britain's new military cooperation plan, the
full terms of which remain secret, will be signed off in early 2011
and is of such a great priority that it is immune from defense cuts.
