Europe's oldest person aged 116 dies in Spain

Spain's Ana Vela Rubio, the oldest person in Europe, died on Friday at the age of 116 in an elderly care home in Barcelona, Daily Sabah reports with a reference to Spanish media. Vela Rubio, born in Andalusia on October 29, 1901, was Europe's oldest resident and the third-oldest person in the world, according to the international Gerontology Research Group.

A former seamstress, Vela Rubio has lived in Spain's Catalonia region since the 1940s, according to newspaper El Pais. Her 90-year-old daughter lived with her in the same convelescent home for the past four months.
