Vela Rubio, born in Andalusia on October 29, 1901, was Europe's oldest resident and the third-oldest person in the world, according to the international Gerontology Research Group.
A former seamstress, Vela Rubio has lived in Spain's Catalonia region since the 1940s, according to newspaper El Pais. Her 90-year-old daughter lived with her in the same convelescent home for the past four months.
