Washington offers Tehran its own nuclear deal
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe United States is ready to conclude a new agreement with Iran to guarantee that it will never produce nuclear weapons, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in his interview to German newspaper Rheinische Post.
"We guarantee that Iran will never possess nuclear weapons," he noted. The U.S. Secretary of State indicated that the United States is ready to make a deal with Iran if it is ready to guarantee that it will not develop "any possibilities for producing nuclear weapons posing a threat to the world."
Speaking about the 2015 deal with Iran, Pompeo said that, according to U.S. President Donald Trump, it "directly" allows Iran to possess nuclear weapons.
"I think exactly the same. This can not be accepted, so we came out of the deal," Pompeo stressed.
In addition, the U.S. "cannot turn a blind eye" to the fact that other threats emanate from Iran, "directly in Germany, in the center of Europe", he stressed. "The Iranian missile program is developing, Iran places members of the Hezbollah movement everywhere in the world, carries out attacks in Europe," the US Secretary of state listed. According to him, "the nuclear deal has not changed anything."
Senior research fellow of the Institute for Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladimir Sazhin, speaking to Vestnik Kavkaza, said that sooner or later, Iran will have to engage in dialogue with the United States. "At the moment, it will not happen, because Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has repeatedly said that there will be no talks with the United States. But the situation in Iran is very complicated, it is are under heavy pressure form the U.S. both in economic, military and diplomatic terms. Recently, three summits were held in Mecca - of the Persian Gulf countries, the Arab League and the OIC - and the decisions of at least two of these forums were of anti-Iranian nature, that is, the Arab world opposes Iran," he recalled.
"The JCPOA is a good document to control the Iranian nuclear program. Washington’s demands to completely ban nuclear research in Iran can not be implemented at the level of existing international documents, since Iran is both a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA. It has the same the right to develop its nuclear technologies, as any other country," the senior research fellow of the Institute for Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences said.
"As a result, now President Trump's main task is to make Iran to seat at the negotiating table in order to show that the United States has been able to get the concession from Tehran. For Iran, in turn, it is very important to lift the sanctions that are hitting its economy," the orientalist concluded.
