Kotov emphasizes role of history as part of national idea in Russia

Igor Kotov, President of the Officers’ Club, has commented on the ‘Family relic. We remember. We are proud. We keep it’ project. He said that modern young people saw no way to satisfy their demands and find a life strategy. Many young people worship politicians and show business figures, not scientists, doctors, teachers, engineers.

Kotov noted that, according to VTsIOM polls in mid-2012, 39% of 18-24-year-old people considered leaving the country. About 29% of the most educated young people had similar ideas.

The activist explained that the ‘Family relic’ project was developed to encourage self-identification, strengthening of family values and traditions, ethic and patriotic development, form a base of family relics.Kotov believes that the problem needed a complex approach. He said that consolidations non-commercial organizations, schools, museums, ordinary citizens and expression of proudness with history and culture, they form a national idea.
