Azerbaijani political scientist on role of expert councils

Expert councils are widespread both in the USA and Europe. Experts of various specializations participate in these councils. The Azerbaijani political scientist and member of the Expert Council at the Trend news agency, Fikret Sadyhov, spoke about these councils.

"Experts should perform a serious, important role, connecting civil society with the authorities. They may provide analysis of events, solutions to problems, certain aspects of socio-political life and world issues. This may be very useful for authorities and official bodies," Sadyhov told the Trend news agency.

He said that official structures should be “vitally interested" in it. "Expert councils make recommendations, they have no right to dictate anything to anyone. Their aim is to provide solutions to these problems, analyses and forecasts," Sadyhov said.

"Practice shows that many members of advisory councils frequently give interviews and publish materials in periodicals, expressing their opinion. Naturally, this should be considered when decisions in  political circles are made," the political scientist said. From his point of view, it would be  better if expert councils periodically gathered and exchanged opinions, not just at the level of correspondence dialogue, but also in "live" contacts. "This would be aimed at the further development and improvement of such councils and will improve their activity," the political scientist added.
