The Mugham Evening concert was held today at the Caspian restaurant on Arbat Street in Moscow.
Mugham is one of the principal genres of traditional Azerbaijani music. In 2008, UNESCO inscribed Azerbaijani mugham on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, having originally proclaimed it a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2003.
The event was held under the auspices of Dostlug-Druzhba ("Friendship"), an organization that stages cultural and educational events, works to preserve and promote Azerbaijani traditions, supports children's and youth creativity, and fosters friendship among peoples.
The evening featured performances by the Buta Trio, led by Elman Hasanli - an accomplished musician, educator, and master of the tar, a traditional Azerbaijani string instrument.
