Today the Supreme Court of South Ossetia was going to consider cassation by the opposition candidate, Alla Dzhioyeva, for cancelling of the results of the presidential elections, but growing tension in the republic ruined the plans. Early in the morning somebody fired from a grenade launcher a flat of the general prosecutor of South Ossetia, Taimuraz Khugayev. Both authorities and the opposition called the fire provocation and connected it with the date of considering the cassation. Alla Dzhioyeva took the cassation aside, as she doesn’t believe in court anymore.
Khugayev said that “information on the fact it can happen was presented to the special services. Now the most important is to find and arrest the committer.” Khugayev indicated that patron of the terrorist attack is known to the authorities. One can suppose that he is one of opponents of the current power. One of suspects is the chief coach of the free-style wrestling national team of Russia, who was born in South Ossetia, Dzambolat Tedeyev, who is in Germany at the moment.
According to some sources, the Ossetian authorities accuse Tedeyev in riots in the republic, and probably they rely not only on his harsh statements about the current president Eduard Kokoyty, but also on methods of conducting struggle. On September 30th a group of Tedeyev’s supporters tried to break into the Central Election Committee, where the issue of his registration as a candidate for president position in the elections of the 13th November was considering. Later the CEC rejected Tedeyev’s application. As the result he supported Alla Dzhioyeva.
Now Dzhioyeva, who is disappointed by Russian mediation, decided to conduct inauguration and form the government. She refused from holding negotiations with the head of the Russian presidential administration department on interregional and cultural ties with foreign countries, Sergey Vinokurov, and urged to send another mediator from Moscow in Tskhinvali. Perhaps she means a mediator, who is more liberal to demands of the opposition.
In other case South Ossetian opposition threatens to appeal to the international society. However, it is well-known that the international society supports Georgia. Tbilisi has many times stated that elections in South Ossetia are illegal, as the international society doesn’t recognize them.
Nevertheless, either Georgia or Russia looks indifferently at presidential campaign in South Ossetia. Another case is that Tbilisi would like to see destabilization in the republic, while Russia – stabilization. From the point of view of the international society, Dzhioyeva’s government would be twice self-appointed.
P.S: On Tuesday the Supreme Court has considered the cassation by Dzhioyeva and admitted legality of cancel of results of the elections.
