According to reports published by some Internet sources, the governor of the Krasnodar Territory, Alexander Tkachyov, has handed in his resignation. At the moment this information hasn’t been confirmed by official sources.
If information on resignation of one of the most long-standing governors is confirmed, both the authorities and the opposition can chalk it up.
After the well-known events in Krymsk and earlier tragic death of 12 people in the village of Kyshchyovka, Tkochyov’s future fully dependent on his relations with Vladimir Putin who never decides to resign “his” officials under pressure of foreign forces, in this case the opposition factions in the State Duma.
A net campaign urging to dismiss Tkachyov from office and to initiate investigation of criminal negligence during the flood was organized on the site change.org. In few days almost 15 thousand people signed the Petition electronically.
The factor which contradicts rumors on resignation of Tkochyov and makes him stay is the Olympic Games in Sochi, specifically enormous amounts of money invested into Olympic facilities. And this is not an easy question. Too less time is left before Sochi-2014, and new regional authorities will have to cope with great amount of problems.
Probably Tkachyov’s decision was influenced by the latest speech of Putin at the session of the State Council where he openly spoke about criteria of estimation of local authorities’ work and on possibility of dismissing any governor, including those who are elected. That is why from the point of view of tactics possible resignation of Tkachyov is not only concession to the social opinion, but also a start of a new era in relations between governors and President.
It appears all expert views are between two poles: “Putin won’t give away his governor” and “We will live a new life.” What version will be more precise, we will know in the nearest future. However, VK believes this news might be a fake.
