Several acts of terror have been committed recently in Dagestan. Experts argue as to whether they are connected with the assassination of Magomet-Ali Vagabov, one of the leaders of the so-called Caucasus Emirate.
A series of terrorist attacks were made on Makhachkala, Kizlyar and Derbent. Vyacheslav Gasanov, the spokesman for the interior ministry of Dagestan, told "Radio Svoboda" the details:
"The deputy head of the administration of Kizlyar was attacked. Terrorists shot at him as he was driving a car. The official was wounded. In the Tarumovsy district an explosive device spontaneously blew up in a car. One terrorist was badly injured. In Derbent, a terrorist started an attack on a police post. No policemen were injured, but the terrorists shot a 5-year old girl and wounded a young woman. A car exploded near Gaden. A prominent terrorist leader was killed, now others are trying to show themselves".
Alexei Vlasov, the Editor-in-Chief of the internet site "Vestnik Kavkaza", commented on the possible consequences of the assassination of Vagabov:
"Vagabov was a prominent leader of the terrorists, a keen supporter of Doku Umarov's course, which is very important, as there are certain conflicts among the terrorists. That is why the Russian authorities put such an emphasis on the fact that he has eventually been killed.
Speaking about the secret documents that are now at the disposal of the Russian officials and may tell them about the way terrorists were financed, I should stress that such announcements are often baseless media actions aimed at discouraging terrorists".
