The anniversary of the Khojaly massacre is approaching. Azerbaijani society is certain that the 1992 tragedy of Khojaly, in which Azerbaijani people were butchered, is nothing but a genocide of the Azerbaijani people. Many people in Azerbaijan believe that the international community should condemn Armenians for this tragedy.
Turkish politicians have called on the country's parliament to condemn Armenia for the Khojaly massacre on several occasions. At the same time, Armenian media continue to assert that Azerbaijani military commanders are responsible for the tragedy themselves.
Seven thousand people used to live in Khojaly in 1992. After the beginning of the war with Armenia the town was crowded by refugees. On February 26, 1992, Armenian armed forces attacked the town and after occupying it they started to shoot civilians. Those who managed to escape from the town died in forests due to severe frost.
Now the Azerbaijani people commemorate February 26 as the Day of the Khojaly Tragedy. The Armenian side has not yet admitted that it is responsible for such a terrible crime against humanity. It would be much fairer to admit it.
