Nakhchivan is a region with thousands of years of history, a crossroads of civilizations and eras where traditional world religions and cultures coexist. Today the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is a landlocked exclave of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and its difficult economic situation mainly caused by the energy and economic blockade imposed by Armenia.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev launched the project of reconstruction of drinking water supply and sewerage systems in Sharur city and surrounding villages. Now such projects are being implemented in every city of Nakhchivan. Sharur is the fourth city after Nakhchivan, Djulfa and Shahbuz, where this issue was resolved. Now pure drinking water can be supplied to Sharur, fully in line with the standards of the World Health Organization. "The interests of Azerbaijani citizens are at the center of our policy, we have the opportunities to solve all social issues," Ilham Aliyev said, stressing that he set the task to reconstruct drinking water supply and sewerage systems of all the cities.
At a meeting with teachers and re[resentative of the public, Azerbaijani President touched on security issues exclave: "You live here face to face with the enemy. Of course, first of all, security measures should be a priority for the successful development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Great work has been done to strengthen the military potential of Nakhchivan. Nakhchivan's Combined Arms Army, which is part of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, is provided with the most modern weapons and equipment. Over the past few years, the Azerbaijani Army has been significantly strengthened. Almost all types of the modern military equipment purchased or most of them are sent to Nakhchivan, taking into account its geographical relief."
According to Ilham Aliyev, modern military equipment deployed in Nakhchivan, including long-range missiles, can destroy any enemy target.
