Armenian Armed Forces violate ceasefire in Nakhichevan

Soon after the ceasefire was established shortly after 12:00 PM (11:00 AM Moscow time), it was violated by the Armenian side, the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan informed.

Today, on April 5th, from 12:10 PM (11:10 AM MSK) to 12:56 PM (11:56 AM MSK), positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces were fired at in the Ordubad, Shahbuz and Babek districts of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from large-caliber small arms and rocket-propelled grenades by the Armenian Armed Forces, which were deployed in the areas of Meghri, Sisiyan and Jermuk.

Surgical strikes by separate units of the Separate Combined Arms Army suppressed the enemy.

A firing point and engineering and fortifications of the enemy were destroyed as a result of the response of the Azerbaijani forces operating in the direction of the Ordubad district.

The Azerbaijani Armed Forces completely control the operational environment.

Recall that all the border posts of Azerbaijan on the night of April 2 were subjected to intense fire from large-caliber weapons, mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and artillery units of the Armenian Armed Forces. In addition, a number of shots were fired at settlements near the frontline, densely populated by civilians.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts  (20% of the Azerbaijan's territory) are still occupied by the Armenian armed forces.

In May 1994 the parties reached a ceasefire agreement during negotiations, which are still continuing under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group and co-chairs Russia, France and the US.

The UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions haven't been carried out by Armenia yet.
