Baku hopes to host Expo 2025

Last fall, Baku's candidature to host Expo 2025 was presented in the Bureau international des expositions. Expo exhibitions are held every five years and last up to six months. Previous exhibition was held in Milan in 2015, the next will be held in 2020 in Dubai.

Baku became one of four candidates to host Expo 2025. Its rivals are Osaka, Paris and Yekaterinburg.

Baku's application says that this city at the crossroads of continents and civilizations is a commercial, political and cultural bridge between east and west, north and south.

Architecture of eastern and western heritage is combined with modern buildings. Significant international events, such as the Eurovision Song Contest, inaugural European Games, Islamic Solidarity Games and Formula-1 were held and will be held in Baku.

In 2019, Azerbaijan will host the European Youth Festival, in 2020 - the European Karate Championship and matches of the group stage of UEFA Euro 2020.

Expo 2025 will run from May 10 to November 10, 2025.
