Development of the fisheries sector has been a priority in the agricultural and industrial complex of Kabardino-Balkaria since 2014. 'Kabardino-Balkarskaya Pravda' reports that this is connected with the fact that the republic has unique fisheries capacity – 10 thousand ha. About 30 kinds of fish live in local rivers.

According to an expert in the sphere of aquaculture, PhD (Biology), Professor Muhammad Shakhmurzov, it has always been beneficial to breed fish in the KBR, especially today when the sector is a priority in the agricultural industry. The republic has unique conditions for breeding many valuable species of fish. Almost all the regions have favorable climatic conditions and natural potential for development of the business. “Implementation of programs for import substitution, a high demand for domestic products, certain support by scientific organizations, excess of human resources in rural areas and the large number of lakes and rivers make this direction very attractive economically, socially and environmentally,” the scientist says. He also notes that the region has great opportunities for development of intensive fish breeding.

Moreover, within implementation of the regional program for development of the tourist cluster, there is an opportunity to develop recreational fishing, when tourists can fish and then taste their catch immediately.
