Coming winter will be colder than the previous one

In the the last two days in Moscow, meteorological news competed in popularity with the news from Syria – after an abnormally hot end of September, the beginning of October brought real winter to the Russian capital. There is a blizzard in the city and at night, the temperature is below zero. A warming will come to Moscow in the middle of next week. However, with rising temperatures, weather forecasters predict a sharp increase in atmospheric pressure.

The Director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Roman Vilfand, spoke about what awaits Muscovites and citizens of all Russia: "We expect that in general this winter, the current winter season, or better to say, the cold period is determined from October to March inclusive, won't be an extreme cold period. But in any case the average temperature background in European Russia as a whole is projected lower than in the winter of last year. The winter of 2015-2016 will be cooler, the temperature anomalies will be more significant than in the winter of 2014-2015."

Meanwhile, not only the health and mood of people depends on the weather, but also entire sectors of the economy. The harvest season is ending and we can summarize certain preliminary results. "We are working very closely with the Ministry of Agriculture, it gives us the courtesy of daily data on the harvesting. The cereal and grain-legume crops have been harvested from an area of 91.6% and gross yield has exceeded 97 million tons. In total, approximately 8% of uncleared areas remains. There is still operational information about the harvesting of corn, sugar beet, sunflowers, but so far these crops are harvested from an area of less than 50%. Only sugar beet has been harvested from about 52% of the area utilized. The yields on all these crops – corn, sugar beet, sunflowers – is higher than last year," Vilfand stated.
