Yesterday, the Day of Turkey was celebrated at the Russian State University for the Humanities (RGGU). The verses of great Nazim Hikmet, the Ottoman empire melodies and songs of popular singers were sounded in the walls of the University. Students told about interesting facts from the history of the republic and played scenes from the life of Hodja Nasreddin. The audience warmly welcomed the dance collectives that performed Russian folk and oriental dances.
Ambassador of Turkey to Russia Huseyin Dirioz told Vestnik Kavkaza that the role of culture in the bilateral relations is extremely great: "On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Istanbul, where the inauguration of the offshore section of the Turkish Stream pipeline was held. However, it must be admitted that there is still a huge untapped potential in the trade and economic sphere. In order to ensure the sustainability of our relations, it is necessary to develop intercultural relations, academic exchanges, and public contacts. Today’s event has become significant in terms of the importance of cultural connections and academic exchanges. "

Also, the festivity was attended by the president and vice-rector of the RGGU, teaching staff, specialists in the field of Turkology. The entertainment and educational festival was organized by the Russian-Turkish Educational and Scientific Center of the RGGU and the Yunus Emre Institute in Moscow.
Director of the Russian-Turkish Educational and Scientific Center of the RGGU, Alexander Vasilyev, told Vestnik Kavkaza the following: "Our cooperation is developing in the rapid and positive leaps. We hope that in the future our contacts will help to develop the Turkic studies in Russia and acquaint Russians with Turkish culture as well as Turkish citizens living here with the culture of Russia. At the end of the event, the buffet with honey baklava and Turkish coffee was organised.
Those interested could take part in the Ebru drawing master class. This old graphic technique originated in Turkey many centuries ago. The master puts paints on a special water solution and creates abstract paintings with different tools, which are then transferred to a sheet of paper or single-colour fabric.
