Global Risk Insight: "The Cuban leadership makes a bet on the Kremlin"

The international analytical publication Global Risk Insight wrote about the rapprochement between Russia and Cuba. In recent weeks, experts talk about strengthening of business ties between Russia and Cuba. In spite of world events, Cuba remains the original power that never forgets its old partners and allies.

Unlike the United States, which after the rupture of diplomatic relations was torturing Cuba with sanctions for decades, Russia has never interrupted its business ties with Havana. And in recent years the relationship between the states has only been improving. The Vice-President of Cuba announced that the country needs the support of Russian business for the development of the economy. Russia, in turn, is already making investments in energy and metallurgy. The decision of the Cuban leadership to make a bet on the Kremlin was caused by the fact that the government does not trust the United States, whose policies led to 50-year-long sanctions against Cuba.

Despite the statement of the US leader that Cuban-US relations have entered a ‘new era’, Havana makes a choice in favor of Russia, thanks to the support of which the country has a good chance of entering the world economic arena. Cuban leader Raul Castro is ready to cooperate with Russia not only in the economic sphere, but also on the diplomatic and strategic levels. Already there is information that the Cuban authorities sent their troops to Syria to support Russia's efforts during military operations. In addition, Havana condemns NATO's plans in relation to encroaching on Russia's borders.

Both Moscow and Havana have problems with the foreign policy of the United States, and both countries are seeking new ways of economic development, so further mutually beneficial cooperation between the two friendly states is obvious.

The independent political publication Zero Hedge wrote about why Western countries are obliged to Russia. According to the publication, the Western countries need to apologize to Russia and beg for its return to Europe, for which it has become extremely important, and more than that, the nation was deprived of its place absolutely unfairly. In fact, the US has no place in Europe, as currently the US government pursues a policy of global hegemony, looking after its interests in every possible way.

Why is the anti-Russian military Club of America – NATO – still existing even after the collapse of the Soviet Union? The fact that the main purpose of the organization is to weaken the influence of Russia and its world partners. Gaddafi in Libya was eliminated because he supported Russia in international relations. There was a coup in Ukraine, because the previous leadership was inclined towards an alliance with Russia, not the EU. Now came the turn of Syria.

This kind of dictatorship and totalitarianism of the United States against Russia and any other country that does not support US policy creates problems in world development, not only today, but also in the near future. Expanding NATO's eastern border with Russia is clearly a provocative move from Washington’s side, but in this case it is necessary to pay tribute to Moscow, which is struggling not to exacerbate the already tense situation. Today, Russia is perhaps the only country in the world which conducts its own independent policy and has enough clout to confront the hegemonic plans of the United States.
