The first day of spring became a holiday for residents of border areas of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. On March 1, on the eve of state visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Tajikistan, nine border checkpoints on the Uzbek-Tajik border resumed their work - automobile checkpoints Jartepa (Sarazm), Kushkent (Ura-Tube), Uchkurgan (Khavatag), Khavastabad (Zafarabad), Bekabad (Khashtyak), Pap (Navbunyod), Ravat (Ravot) and Gulbahor (Aivaj), as well as railway checkpoint Amuzang (Khoshadi). Opening ceremonies of these checkpoints were held in a festive atmosphere, with participation of officials and residents of border regions, who can stay in a neighboring country without visa for up to five days. Citizens of the two countries expect introduction of visa-free regime following the visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Dushanbe.
