Chingiz Gurbanov was born in 1994 in the village of Hazra of the Qusar region of Azerbaijan. After school, he entered the faculty of the Industrial Engineering and Optical Devices of the Azerbaijan Technical University, which he left to serve in the army. Gurbanov served only four months. On December 2016, he was forced to fight with the sabotage and reconnaissance group of Armenian Armed Forces, which violated the border and entered the territory of Azerbaijan.
Gubanov killed three opponents and wounded another one, but he was surrounded and captured. Saboteurs managed to smuggle the Azerbaijani soldier to the Armenian territory ... and then there were post-mortem pictures of Chingiz. Armenia tried to use Chingiz Gurbanov's captivity to accuse Azerbaijan of violating the state border ... His body was handed over to the Azerbaijani side only on February 5. The next day, the hero was buried in the Alley of Honor in Qusar.
Yesterday, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with family members of Qurbanov to award them a gold star of the national hero, deserved by Chingiz. "He again demonstrated the enemy in an unequal battle what Azerbaijani soldiers are capable of. Despite the fact that Chingiz was alone when he faced with a large commando group (od more than ten people), he did not give up, not frightened. He fought to the last breath, destroyed several occupiers, climbed to the top of being a shahid. For more than a month they did not want to return the body of Chingiz. Azerbaijani has put great efforts. At the same time, our appeals to the international organizations have also not remained unanswered," the President said. In order to return the body of the dead soldier to Azerbaijan, Baku officially appealed to the representation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Azerbaijan, the OSCE Minsk Group, the personal representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk. In a united effort, they succeeded to return Chingiz's body to his homeland.
Speaking about the purpose of the December provocation, Ilham Aliyev said: "In April 2016, the Armenian armed forces attempted to commit an armed provocation against us. But the result of this provocation has disappointed them. Azerbaijani army dealt them such a blow, they still cannot recover from it. Not only the Armenian army has been shaken after the April battles, but the Armenian government as well, the generals lost their positions, there has been a panic in the Armenian society, which continues to this day."
In April, the Azerbaijani army liberated part of the occupied territories, and now these lands are being restored.
"After the April clashes, Armenia tried very hard to bring attention to this issue at the international level, it was trying to made the Collective Security Treaty Organization, which is a member of Armenia express its position on this matter, whereas it has no legal basis. We are on our land, we do not claim to the Armenian territory," Aliyev said.
Probably, Chingiz knew that he is going to die. However, he died defending his Motherland. He was awarded the highest military rank - the title of National Hero.
