Harry Reid, the leader of the Democratic in the Senate democratic minority leader, believes that Russia intends to falsify the results of the upcoming presidential elections in the US on November 8th. He expressed such a view in a letter to James Comey, the FBI Director, noting that Russia’s tampering with the US election campaign “is more extensive than widely known and may include the intent to falsify official election results.”
According to Dmitry Suslov, the Deputy Director of the Center for European and International Studies of the Higher School of Economics, “the political and ideological challenge posed by Russia cannot compete with the challenge presented by the Soviet Union. That is why the role and influence of Russia in the American elections is less than it used to be during the Cold War.”
According to Suslov, “for the American establishment that has gathered around Hillary Clinton, Russia is an obvious enemy and rival; Russia is an example of a wrong development, a system error which must be fixed. The American establishment is waiting for an inevitable collapse of Russia, thus a corresponding policy. So, if any American politician starts to treat Russia in a more positive way, of course it is turned into an internal political tool and used to ‘torpedo’ him; and we can see it today when the Russian issue is used for ‘torpedoing’ Donald Trump.”
