Military reconstruction at Fedyukhiny Heights

The Fedyukhiny Heights are the Crimean mountains, or rather hills. They were named in memory of the General who distinguished himself during the Crimean War. In the 1850’s there were fierce military battles. The eponymous military-historical festival takes place there. The first festival took place in 2014 and it had a great success. The essence of the military-historical festival at Fedyukhiny Heights are large-scale military-historical reconstructions.

The festival will take place in September from Saturday 12th to September 19th. Each day will be devoted to a specific era, like last year. ‘‘Fortunately, Crimean history is so rich that almost any age can be reconstructed and it will be somehow tied with Crimea,’’ the managing partner of the agency vintage entertainments Ratobortsy, Aleksey Ovcharenko says.

September 12th - The Parade of Eras. All the participants of the festival will participate in it.

September 13 - The Day of Antiquity. Onlookers will see how the ancient Romans and Greeks settled on the peninsula

September 14 - The Day of Ancient Rus. According to many sources, Vladimir conquered not only Korsun, but also Hersonissos and was baptized there.

September 15 - The Day of the Middle Ages. Genoese domination in the Crimea.

September 16 - The Day of the Crimean War.

September 17 - The Day of the beginning of the 20th century.

September 18 - The first day of the Great Patriotic War: the defense of Sevastopol.

September 19 - The second day of the Great Patriotic War: the liberation of Sevastopol.

September 20 - Сlosing of the festival.

‘‘If spectators, visitors or tourists visit this festival this year they will be surprised at how well each of the sites is prepared. For example, the site of ancient Rome and the ancient era means that tourists can actually get into a camp of legionnaires, a military camp, a castrum with walls, with the shaft construction, which is being constructed now. The same goes for the site of the Crimean War, where our visitors will see complete trenches,’’ Ovcharenko said.

He also noted the great interest of re-enactors from all parts of Russia. Moreover, in comparison to last year, the festival will be attended by Poles. We received an application from a French group for the Crimean War.

‘‘This year we pay special attention to children and their presence at the festival. In addition to the military-patriotic camp and children's patriotic camp, we hope to cooperate with Artek in order to host a few groups of the summer-autumn sessions. We will prepare a special program for them. Indeed, all the children are always a privileged audience for us. We prepare individual amusements for children at each site, so that every child could be a legionnaire, or a soldier of the Great Patriotic War, in order to have an opportunity not only to read about history, but also to sense it,’’ Ovcharenko said.
