More than a year has passed since the normalization of relations between Moscow and Ankara, when Turkey's authorities appointed Ambassador Hussein Dirioz, one of the most experienced diplomats of the country, as ambassador to Russia. Prior to that, he led the Turkish diplomatic mission in Brazil, and before that, he held the post of NATO Deputy Secretary General for Defense Policy and Planning. Today Huseyin Dirioz held a press conference in Moscow, where he told about the main directions of the Turkish-Russian cooperation.
The ambassador expressed gratitude to the Russian authorities for their understanding of Turkey's struggle against FETO, which is classified as a terrorist organization in Ankara.
As for cooperation on Syria, according to Diorioz, it is very successful: "In the framework of the Astana process, the current top priority is to ensure the enforcement of the ceasefire, the implementation of measures aimed at mutual trust and humanitarian assistance. It would clear the way for a political settlement. The issue concerns not only the maintenance of the ceasefire, but also the fight against the current terrorist threats in Syria. A special regime has been introduced in Idlib. Recently we opened an observation post there. Our work is aimed at both ensuring the ceasefire and further ensuring of political settlement. In addition, more than three million Syrian refugees live in Turkey today. Providing tranquility in this region will prevent a new wave of refugees and will be a great contribution to preventing new hotbeds of terrorist threats".
Speaking about the tourist sphere of the Turkish-Russian cooperation, Huseyin Dirioz noted several factors that can attract Russian tourists - nature, history and culture, the optimal correlation of rest quality and price, visa-free entry, Russian-speaking staff, hospitality, lack of security problems: "We attach great importance to this issue, we make every effort to ensure your safest rest. There is a mechanism between Russia and Turkey that controls and monitors the current situation. In the near future a meeting of the relevant commission is planned in Antalya. The situation is under control. "
