The Nation: "The Obama administration relentlessly incites the conflict with Russia"

The US independent publication The Nation writes that the Obama administration relentlessly incited the conflict with Russia. The Western media never cease to write about the fact that Russia is a threat to Eastern Europe, but few write about what really lies behind these reports.

Just recently, the Obama administration even more aggravated the relations with the Kremlin, quadrupling the spending for NATO forces on the border with Russia. It is obvious that Washington is not satisfied with the new status of the Cold War, which is why attempts are being made to bring the confrontation to a new level. Such a build-up of military spending is unprecedented in modern history and can only be compared with Nazi Germany, when its military forces were located that close to the Russian borders. The US decision is like Russian roulette Washington-style, and makes the new cold war even more dangerous than the previous one.

Of course, sooner or later Russia will react, probably by moving more of its own heavy weapons, including advanced missiles to defend the western borders, perhaps even with a number of tactical nuclear weapons. Analysts say that the dangerous nuclear arms race between the two countries only intensified after Obama took office.

Washington's decision will have other serious consequences. Most likely, the ongoing talks between US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov regarding the Ukrainian and Syrian crises will be of an even less trusting nature, which in turn will contribute to the further division of Europe, the position of which is far from the warlike approach of Washington to Moscow.

Surprisingly, the potentially fatal decision by Washington was hardly covered in the Western press, there was no public discussion among the current presidential candidates during their performances. Never before has such a difficult international situation been ignored so much in an American presidential election campaign. Open distortion of reality can lead the United States to the fact that its image ad a superpower will be more and more challenged by the international community, despite all the attempts at tricks by the country's leadership.

The analytical publication the Middle East Online writes about the forces that are still trying to sabotage the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program. Israel and the influential American neoconservatives, including a number of presidential candidates never wanted the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program to be signed. However, the nuclear deal is one of the most significant achievements in world politics in recent years and deserves attention and effort to save it. Many of those who tried to prevent the negotiations are still trying to harm the agreement. And the presidential election year in the US is the most fruitful time for this. The presidential candidates, trying to outdo each other in Islamophobia, promise that if they take the top post in the country, the agreement will be cancelled.

In addition, the US Congress is developing new legislation, which provides the possibility of the re-introduction or the introduction of new sanctions against Iran. However, if the agreement is cancelled, it will lead to the fact that Iran completely stops its dialogue with Washington, and not only diplomatic, but also trade and economic. Even now, when the joint action plan is implemented in accordance with  established procedure, Tehran doubts that the US will abide by its commitments, and these suspicions are grounded.

If the fears of the Iranians are confirmed, the US will have another powerful enemy in the Middle East, although there were all possibilities for improving relations, or at least for maintaining the status quo.
