In Tunisia, 12 people were arrested into the case of a terrorist attack on the beach in Sousse. Police are looking for two other potential helpers of terrorist, who shot the foreign tourists. During the attack 40 people were killed, and as many more wounded. Terrorist was killed. Islamic state has taken the responsibility for the attack.
As the Tunisian Ambassador to Russia Ali Gutali stated, "on the same day as the terrorist attack occurred in Tunisia, as you know, there were terrorist attacks in Kuwait, and in France, and Sudan. Terrorist activity is continuing in Iraq and in Syria, and Egypt, and even in the European countries. Terrorism has spread in various parts of the world, and here, of course, we need to forge closer cooperation, regional and global, to combat this negative phenomenon so that we can deal with it."
Talking about the spread of terrorism in Tunisia, the ambassador said that he naimed the external causes: "Tunisia is located in the immediate vicinity, in the vicinity of Libya. From the beginning in Libya although there were no reputable organizations among the population, which could establish some order in the country. As a result of well-known events, a number of different terrorist organizations appeared. Tunisia has a common border with Libya. The lack of a central authority in Libya and the lack of order in the country – all this has led to a kind of chaos, to the chaos of anarchy, and has certainly affected the situation in Tunisia."
However, there are internal factors."In Tunisia, as you know, four years ago there was a revolution. And in the new conditions a new state structure occurred, which of course, has little experience, and a new organization, we had a lot of meetings, demonstrations and other forms of social protest, we acted with complete legal requirements. And after the revolution, these demonstrations and rallies intensified. There were quite a lot of them. This, of course, did not contribute to the strengthening of order in the country. Certain elements of chaos are also observed. But at the same time, the government announced the country's various civil liberties, but unfortunately, the understanding of these freedoms and how to use them was insufficient, and in some cases these freedoms began to be perceived as a general freedom to act without any restrictions. A number of organizations, including a number of mosques, started to operate, spreading ideas that did not help stabilize the situation in the country", - Ali Gutali stated.
According to him, now there is an investigation and the necessary measures to prevent such acts are taken: "It was decided to close about 80 mosques in the country for violating the law against disseminating information calling for Jihad and mutual hatred, which is certainly contrary to the law.
In addition, a decision was made about the need to take legal action against parties and organizations that violate the Constitution. The Government will monitor the implementation of this law. Also, a decree was enacted on the need to control the financing of various organizations and societies. Reservists have been called up to strengthen the armed forces at the border and the forces of law and order on the territories of the tourist areas. These forces will act, of course, according to the law. We have set the task of providing security throughout the coastal area of Tunisia and the safety of all hotels along the coast. We decided to create more than a thousand check-points of special security in areas of hotel congestion", the ambassador concluded.
