The 9th Safronov International Young Pianist competition was launched last week in Pyatigorsk. Many of the 67 competitors received their musical education in Russian establishments of musical education. The competition will run for 5 days. Apart from young pianist performances, masterclasses of world-renowned professionals are on the program.
The jury selected 67 participants from 75 candidates. 23 of the competition’s participants originate from Stavropol Krai, 7 of them are from Pyatigorsk. Young musicians of 8-15 years from Moscow, Krasnoyarsk, Saratov, Ufa, Nizhnekamsk, Tolyatti, Kaluga, Tyumen, Volgograd, Astrakhan, Rostov-on-Don, Maykop, Cherkessk, Vladikavkaz and Grozny, as well as from Belarus’s Vitebsk and China’s Korl, are also taking part in the event.
The director of the competition is convinced that, even if these children and teenagers don’t choose to take up music in their adult lives, the memory of the Safronov Contest will stay with them forever.
The Stavropol Orthodox Church organization supports the event and has prepared a special prize for the competition’s winner. Pyatigorsk’s civil authorities also expressed their interest in the event and their support for the competitors. The Stavropol Krai Governor and Pyatigorsk Mayor also funded special awards for future winners. Eminent figures of the Russian artistic scene are on the jury.
