The Azerbaijani town of Gabala is currently hosting the II International Music Festival.It started on June 25 and will run until August 5. It is primarily due to the wonderful location that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation choose this town for the international musical festival both in 2009 and 2010.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev participated in the opening ceremony, as well as UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, Azerbaijani First Lady Mehriban Alyieva(also the president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation), UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Deputy of National Assembly of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva also participated in the opening ceremony.
Irina Bokova presented Mehriban Aliyeva with the UNESCO Mozart Medal for intercultural dialogue promotion.
The State Azerbaijani Orchestra performed pieces by Azerbaijani composers.
The London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as musicians from Russia, USA, UK, France and Italy performed masterpieces of world music.
