Fashion Week to marry designers and entrepreneurs

Today Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia opens in Moscow. 70 leading Russian and foreign designers will take part in it. The first day is the Day of Industrial Collections, it shows opportunities for cooperation between well-known designers and major industrial companies within the conception “Made in Russia.”

The deputy minister of industry and commerce of Russia Viktor Yevtukhov told that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia is one of the major fashion weeks in Eastern Europe. Every year about 60-70 designers participate in it, 90% of them are representatives of the Russian fashion industry. “For the first along with well-known brands we will present Russian serial production, i.e. products of garment industry, our factories, our enterprises. We hope that our designers who have shown themselves in the West and the East are able to compete with leading fashion houses of the world, they will meet our Russian enterprises and establish productive cooperative contacts.”

“Famous designers from Russia, the UK, Israel, Japan, Belarus will come to Moscow,” the president of Fashion Week, Alexander Shumsky, says. “Our Fashion Week has a great potential. It is a good platform for promotion of Russian designers. Our designers need presentation to a wide audience.”

“In recent five years I have heard from designers, journalists that we have no production in Russia. Designers say: we cannot produce serial collections, we have no capacities, we have to sew in Italy or China. In fact the situation is quite different. We do have production and design. On the one hand, we have famous designers, but they sew only for a narrow group of people, because their garments are expensive. On the other hand, we have companies who produce clothes commercially and do it in Russia. Our task is to marry them, combine them and show that designing clothes can be available, while factories can work with such famous designers as Mr. Zaytsev.”

Designer Vyacheslav Zaytsev stated: “Nowadays I sift my views toward approaching people, for everybody could buy my clothes. It is a very interesting project, even though it demands a lot of resources. Due to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce where new young people, skilful professions work, I think there will be great changes in the sphere. It is my first cooperation with garment industry for 50 years, and I see people who are really interested in supporting the industry.”

Alena Akhmadulina, Ylia Dalakyan, Tatyana Parfenova, Igor Chapurin, and Yelena Suprun will also take part in the Fashion Week.
