After the collapse of the Soviet system, Adler was no longer the
central airport of southern Russia.
Olympic construction has without the slightest doubt had an effect on
the resorts of so called Big Sochi, meanwhile there’s no decrease in
the number of tourists. Adler, one of the suburbs of Sochi, gained
popularity due to the city’s airport. No matter whether you travel to
Sochi or Abkhazia, the first point of your trip will be Adler. A vast
and level, by the standards of the Caucasus region, valley of the
Mzymta river made Adler a transportation centre for Sochi resorts. It
was the only place with plenty of space for the construction of an
airport and railroad infrastructure.
After the collapse of the USSR and the breakdown of the planned
economy, Adler turned from the transportation and service centre into
a resort. Enterprising citizens of Sochi and other regions built in
the city a great variety of private hotels. There is information about
some of them on the non-commercial website Kuban Tourism, whose
authors confirm that Adler excelled other regions of the seaside in
the sphere of private business development.
Adler has won the competitive struggle with the Lazarevskoe region
(due to the proximity with Big Sochi) and Sochi itself (due to the
land value) for investors’ financing. Nowadays there are plenty of
private hotels in Adler equipped with all the things needed for a good
holiday, moreover they can afford the up-keep of private pools,
restaurants, billiard rooms, and even discos. That is thanks to the
availability of undeveloped land.
But those who plan holidays in Adler can ask themselves whether it is
possible taking into consideration airplanes flying overhead, landing
and taking off. Kuban Tourism calms them and tells them that the
flight path over the seaside is high enough to let people enjoy their
holiday.
The price for room varies from 500 rubles ($17) a day to the
astronomical. It is hard to determine an average price for a room - it
depends on the distance from the sea and the centre of the city, level
of comfort, and so on.
We’ve picked out the descriptions of several hotels randomly to give a
general picture.
Ecodom-Adle – A new eight-storey hotel that was built in 2007 and is
located 600 meters from Adler. There is a big pool in the territory of
the hotel, the use of which included in the price. Children under 5
stay in the hotel for free. There is also guarded parking. Distance to
the beach is 3 minutes. The hotel is 5 km. from the airport, 2 km.
from the Adler railway station, and 18 km. from the centre of Sochi.
Marina is 5 minutes on foot from the city of Adler and just 200 meters
from the beach. The hotel consists of three separate five-storey
buildings. There is a fresh water pool, a café and hoarded parking.
The AquaLoo recreational center is 18 km north-west of Sochi. The
center consists of 5 buildings and a unique covered, year-round
dolphinarium. There is also a private beach and a gym.
Dolphin is located in the resort city. Tourists will find here a
balance between recreational facilities and amusements represented in
the city, including pools and the biggest aqua park at the sea side.
The centre is located 50 meters from the sea.
