Holding heart in hands

Holding heart in hands
Technology is nothing without a human

The world is strange sometimes. Everything that is created by nature can be destroyed in a single minute; something can be perfect and still ephemeral. And all this can be expressed with the help of
mathematical formulas. Humanity has unveiled a lot of the world's secrets, and human potential seems great.

And still a human being remains the most interesting thing to study, without understanding ourselves we cannot understand the Universe. Trying to understand the phenomenon of a human being, medieval physicians were opening good men's graves and dissecting their dead bodies. Several decades ago doctors were unable to help patients and had only to clench their teeth in despair. Nowadays, artificial kidneys, hearts, and lungs are common. But all this is useless, if the human spirit is dead.

Several days ago, on my birthday, my heart was lying in the hands of Tallinn Central Hospital's doctors. Such an operation is extremely difficult and requires great skills and experience. These doctors are ordinary people, they have their simple problems and everyday lives, but in any case they took one of my birthdays in order to give me a chance to celebrate many others.

I was born in the Moscow Region, and had a special designation as being of Azerbaijani nationality in my previous passport. Now I'm a Russian citizen living in Tallinn. A common story for people of my generation, in Soviet times there were no borders.

I am very thankful to the people whose professional skills have saved my life. I believe that one may judge a country by the way old people are treated there. In Estonia everything is done to give one or two years of life to an old man.

Six days have passed since the time my heart was lying in the doctors' hands. Now it is hard to believe it. I am at my daughter's place, surrounded by my family, my wife is pouring tea in small national cups, and I can enjoy it all only because of Estonian doctors.
