The First Theatre Festival commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birthday of Balo Tkhalsayev, a famous actor, drew to a close recently in Vladikavkaz. The idea of organizing such a festival was expressed by the head of the local Opera and Ballet Theatre, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, Larisa Georgiyeva. Her idea was supported by local officials, the Minister of Culture of North Ossetia and the Ministry of Culture of Russia.
In the framework of the festival, the city of Vadikavkaz was visited by prominent actors and actresses of Moscow, St.-Petersburg and other cities of Russia. Among other guests of the festival, Vladikavkaz was visited by the famous Russian theater and cinema actor Vasily Lonovoy. However, the local public was delighted to meet Ludmila Chursina, a People's Actress of the USSR. She was not at all snobbish and agreed to meet journalists.
"I saw Tkhalsayev playing Othello", said Chursina, "He was amazing, we were all charmed by his talent. I was a student of the Shukin Theatre Institute in those days, we were young and daring." The present-day theatre is developing, while there is no evident mainstream in theatre culture. Everything is changing, people are changing, their mentality is changing, and theatre is also changing.
