Stavropol Territory authorities try to find a way to prevent district’s villages from total extinction
Agricultural production indicators, as well as investments, have more than doubled compared to 2009 figures. According to the minister in charge of the Territory's agricultural development this is the highest result in the last 20 years, due to concentrated support from the federal budget, which accounts for 70% of all investments. This year, in 11 of the Territory's 26 districts all agricultural enterprises managed to break even.
Stavropol Territory yielded its second best harvest of wheat this year, despite a reduction in the amount of arable land in use. On the other hand, experts say that Stavropol Territory could do better in growing vegetables, as well as in the meat and dairy industries, which are unprofitable in many districts. Future work should be concentrated on amending this situation. The Ministry says that stabilizing the socio-economic situation in Stavropol villages requires the creation of additional workplaces. 361 million rubles were allocated to the Territory's social development last year.
According to the Territory's deputy agriculture minister, 18 investment projects have been launched, creating some 2,154 new jobs in the Territory's meat and dairy industries.
