Dagestan to support small businesses

The Russian Minister for Economic Development Elvira Nabiulina and Dagestani President Magomedsalam Magomedov visited the office of the Dagestani Committee for Supporting Small Businesses in the middle of July. They met the head of the Committee, Magomed Shabanov, in order to discuss government policy towards business. The officials also met Dagestani entrepreneurs and discussed with them prospects of further development of their businesses.

The Director of the Small and Medium-sized Business Development Department of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, Natalya Larionova, underlined that the most effective way to support small enterprises in the region is to provide businessmen with grants and loans.

“This year the Dagestani Committee for Supporting Small Businesses decided to support innovations and leasing. We believe that this practice will become routine. It’s impossible to support all the initiatives at once. We always have to choose some particular ones,” she said.

Magomed Shabanov said that the visit of the two top officials is remarkable and shows how great the attention paid by the authorities to Dagestan and its problems is. According to him, one of the most promising fields is tourism. Development of tourism will ease political and social tension in the region, Shabanov believes.
