The system of strategic economic planning is going to be revived in the Stavropol Krai. Now, as it was in Soviet times, the main spheres of economic development will be regulated according to a general plan. The general strategy of economic development of the Stavropol Krai for 2010 - 2020 was adopted in July 2009, thus completing the first phase of creating a system of strategic economic planning.
In the second phase, a medium-term plan for the realisation of the strategy is necessary, which is now being elaborated. The program of social and economic development of the Stavropol Krai in 2010 - 2012 is to be examined by the Government of the Krai and then adopted by the Krai's Duma.
The main priorities in the framework of the program will be development of business projects in the oil and gas, chemical, extractive and manufacturing and light industries and also projects in the power, tourism and agricultural sectors, followed by projects in infrastructure, healthcare, education and investment.
"The program of social and economic development of the Stavropol Krai in 2010 - 2012 is the first stage in the realisation of our long-term economic strategy. This program is aimed at providing the necessary basis for future development and signalling our priorities", said Yuri Yagudayev, the Minister of Economic Development of the Stavropol Krai.
The prognosis for the social and economic development of the Stavropol Krai is optimistic
Analysis of the social and economic development of the Stavropol Krai in 2009 and the first half of 2010 has shown that the region has sustained social stability. The Stavropol Krai, with its complex economy, is successfully overcoming the economic crisis.
The index of industrial production in the Stavropol Krai is 106.5% , which is 4.8% higher than that of the North Caucasus Federal District and 3.8% lower than the Russian Federation as a whole.
The average income of the residents of the Krai has grown this year and inflation in the same period has slowed. The level of unemployment has also lowered.
The prognosis for social and economic development of the region published by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Stavropol Krai in general remains optimistic.
