Medvedev supports Ingush leader Yevkurov

After the resignation of Vorobyov and the All-Ingush citizen council incident at the beginning of this week, Medvedev met the head of the Republic of Ingushetia, Yunus-bek Yevkurov

Yervkurov told Medvedev about the socio-economic situation in the republic and measures taken against the terrorist gangs. He also said that last year 54 people left the gangs – some are currently being tried, while the others had been forced to participate in the terrorist activities. He also mentioned that currently 4 ideologists, recruiting the youths, are operating in the republic. Yevkurov said the security agencies of the republic are pursuing the relatives of the terrorists not to support them, adding that he himself meets the relatives of the terrorists, both fugitive and killed, in order to prevent their family members’(especially sisters and widows) joining the terrorists.

Recently, Ingush authorities invited relatives of the terrorists to visit the parliament.

President Medvedev was content with the measures taken by the Ingush authorities and emphasized that the course should be pursued.

In short, Medvedev supported Yevkurov and his policies. This was very important for Yevkurov. After the resignation of Alexei Vorobyov, who is considered responsible for losing the war with the clans, the All-Ingush citizen council, member-organizations of the council addressed the President, asking him to sack Yevkurov. They blamed him and his administration for incompetence and unprofessionalism.

However, other Ingush activists supported Yevkurov immediately. They said the incident was a provocation, blamed the opposition for its inability to take part in positive dialogue with the authorities, as well as its attempts to provoke society by claiming that the authorities are incapable of preventing radicalization of the republic's youths.
