Zhirinovsky's frightening election program

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), has full confidence of winning the presidential polls in May 2012 with his fearmongring program and wide range of public support. He announced his program at a press conference.

He has chosen a slogan "Zhirinovsky! Or it will be worse!" According to him, the LDPR is the most uncorrupted and independent of all parties in the parliament.

Concerning the second round of presidential polls, Zhirinovsky said: "He should doubtlessly be involved, because all other states have no presidential polls held in two rounds, no candidate has ever won the first round". A normal level of support of any, even a popular, candidate in the first round is 20%. The LDPR leader believes that there will be three serious candidates (he himself, Gennady Zyuganov and Vladimir Putin) and none of them should gain over 30% of votes in the first round of fair polls. Only the second round will determine the one who deserves the power in the country.

One of the key points of Zhirinovsky's program is the new Constitution, with the "president" renamed to "supreme lord". A president's terms of office would be reduced to 5 years (the same terms were chosen for governors and MPs). Moreover, a president may have more than two terms of office.

Zhirinovsky promissed to choose the president's administration through a contest. All parties, regions and the Federal Council will vote for candidates in the Internet. The LDPR leader expects to appoint all ministers via Internet votes.

Zhirinovsky denied rumours about his pro-Kremlin orientation, as accused by Mikhail Prokhorov: "Our party has always been and remains an independent political force, while Fair Russia and Right Cause are Kremlin's projects (with which the government has already been disappointed)". United Russia, as Zhirinovsky says, holds power illegally, its real support has never changed since 1999 and remains at 20%. He adviced voters to analyze biographies and family stories of candidates, believing that heritage plays an important role in formation of a person and his/her skills: " A rabbit gives birth to a rabbit, a lion - to a lion. A rabbit would never give birth to a lion".

Emphasizing his sympathy to Belarus and Ukraine, Zhirinovsky noted that commercial ties with all states should be based on world prices. LDPR supports formation of new confederations, because they carry a potential of separatism. If integration process fail, there is need to consolidate, according to Zhirinovski, into a single state solely.
