Today the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey arrives to Israel. Media suggests that the main purpose of his visit is to make sure that Israel isn’t going to attack Iran at least in the nearest future. This topic was in the focus of recent phone conversations between US President Barak Obama and Isreali PM and Defense Minister.
Of course, the actual contents of these conversations are kept in secret. However, some sources say that in the end Israeli officials refused to give any guarantees to the US. Experts say that it is because of this refusal that the joint US-Israeli war games scheduled for spring were cancelled: the US fears possible Israeli military strike against Iran and doesn’t want to be perceived as an accomplice.
The recent condemnation of the murder of Iranian nuclear scientist by the US administration can be viewed as a part of this new strategy (‘Israeli trail’ is one of the possible explanations of this murder).
According to experts, Israeli special services will present their research to General Dempsey. According to this research, the decision of actual nuclear bomb construction hasn’t yet been made by Iranian government, and the year 2012 is expected to be critical in this matter. If such a decision is taken, its consequences would be irreversible.
The theory that stipulates that Israel is really quite close to attacking Iranian military objects can be supported by the fact that the Israeli Chief of Staff will not meet the high guest from America, but chose to go on a Europe tour instead, where he is expected to meet high NATO representatives, as well as Russian, French, Canadian and Austrian officials. Some say that he will try to insure the support or at least non-interference of these countries in case Israel decides to attack Iran.
