Israel-Turkey: conflict over Gaza

The Israeli military and the Defense Ministry condemn Turkey for providing Hamas with $300 million in Gaza annually.

The agreement on such aid was reached at a meeting of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Gaza Prime Minister (according to Hamas version) Ismail Haniyeh. Officially, the sum is to compensate the finances Hamas lost after tensions with Iran. Part of the funds will be spent on the needs of Hamas administration and part on humanitarian purposes. Israel believes that most of the finances would be used for production of new missile models to attack the territory of Israel from Gaza. The models have been developed in Syria in the last months. Israeli intelligence reckons that Hamas spends at least 50% of aid received from charity foundations, the UN and EU on missile production.

Israel is attacked from the Gaza Sector daily and Israeli Air Forces counter-attack terrorists. Gaza has at least 10,000 missiles to attack Israel, most of them belong to Hamas, part to the Islamic Jihad Movement.

The decision of Erdogan to aid Hamas with $300 million was taken by Israeli security services as another step of Turkey towards support for terror and provocation of tensions with Israel. Neither politicians, nor media in Israel gave reacted to the information. Perhaps it is because the information was only published on January 27, weekend.

It is curious that the Palestinian National Autonomy expressed discontent with the initiative because the finances were expected to be used to help the Palestinian people as a whole. Palestinians living on the Western Bank say that the tough economic state in Gaza is part of Hamas’ speculations. In reality, Palestinians say that people in Gaza live much better than those living in Ramallah and Jenin because wages in Gaza are the same as in other cities but food prices are lower by 30%, in addition, the population of Gaza receives humanitarian aid.
