Will Israel attack Iran in 2012?

Israel and the West are discussing the article by the Israeli journalist Ronen Bergman in The New York Times Magazine, which says that Israel will launch a strike on Iran in 2012.

Ronen Bergman is not a simple journalist, he is one of the most informed, or probably the most informed, journalist in Israel, who has access to secret data of the Defense Ministry, the Mossad and the Israeli Security Agency, Shin Bet. All Bergman’s books are based on his real links and friendship with veterans and contemporary activists of the Israeli intelligence and counterintelligence. Bergman is used by the special service for publication of some information (for disinformation). Bergman is like merry devils in the Jewish folklore: they know future, but in their prediction they say truth for three times and lie for the fourth time. The problem is that you don’t know it was a second prediction or a fourth. The same situation is about Bergman. At the same time, it is obvious that Bergman was managed to publish the scandalous article in The New York Times Magazine because the top defense officials of Israel needed it.

At the same time, the former head of the Israel Defense Forces, Gabi Ashkenazi, and other officials said there is no clear answer on the question whether Israel attacks Iran or not. The point of the Israeli policy is equal to the well-known slogan by Trotsky “no peace, no war.” Israel will heat the international society by rumors on preparedness for the attack of Iran without intention to do it. It enables Tel-Aviv to pressure the UN and the EU for they implement sanctions against Iran and adopt new ones. Israel understands that after it launches a strike on the Iranian nuclear facilities, Iran, Gaza and Lebanon will response by strikes on Israel. However, it doesn’t mean Israel stops preparation for such attack. Probably Ronen Bergman is right, and it will happen in 2012.

In December 2011 in Moscow one of participants of the session of Luxemburg forum on prevention of nuclear disaster said: “According to our information, an attack of Iran by Israel is not favorable for Israel, but it is better than Iran strikes first. Moreover, even though the whole world, including Russia, will judge Israel for the attack, it won’t lead to sanctions against Tel-Aviv or breaking diplomatic relations with Russia and the West. Iran is the only member of the international society, which demands destroying of other member of the society, i.e. Israel, the world will generally agree that Israel has a right for such actions.”

It seems Israel and the US might try to intensify the Iranian opposition for in the mid of winter 2012 Iranian Spring comes. At the International Economic Forum in Davos Israeli President Shimon Peres said that he believes the Iranian peoples want to live in freedom and urged population to support anti-fundamentalist forces.
