Teheran – 33

Russian Vice-PM Vladimir Rogozin confirmed that during his latest meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation, Mahmud Reza Sadjadi, they discussed issues of technological and military cooperation. However, the Russian high official denied rumors of any actual agreements being reached during this meeting.

On the eve of the 33rd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran the Ambassador gave a press-conference and commented on a wide range of urgent questions.

“Let us quickly consider the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Certainly, for domination in our country Americans used before the Revolution three basic political techniques: destruction of religious values and moral principles, constant diminishing and rejection of Islamic civilization and culture, and also of the potential of our country; support of our country’s backwardness in order to subjugate it even more. They thought they would destroy the infrastructures of our state and thus would dominate our people. But our people, of course, did not want to stand it. On February 11, the Islamic Revolution of Iran will enter its 34th year of existence. But in the process of this revolution we lost hundreds of thousands of innocent people. Of course, in spite of threats and intrigues which it experienced during these 33 years, our country moved forward. Last week already a third Iranian satellite was launched, and this satellite is already in orbit at a certain point. Also we presented for sale 8 trade names of new biotechnological medicines. Only some states produce these medicines, not more than 7-8 states. Therefore, of course, the Islamic Republic of Iran, while preserving its principles and its attitudes, is moving forward. Therefore we think that the Islamic Republic of Iran is today a propagator of justice and the struggle against violence throughout the world.

“The second moment that I’d like to mention is that we received a signal about a danger for the whole of mankind. We have seen, America’s defeat in Egypt, in Tunisia, and Yemen, and Islamic countries revolt one after another. The defeat already lowers the authority of the U.S. in the whole world. We see now that the U.S. resorts to incorrect principles, to incorrect and sometimes dangerous methods. It started when they crashed our passenger aircraft over the Persian Gulf, and as a result 270 people died – women, children and men. After that the commander of their crew was awarded with a medal for bravery. Today Americans say that Russia and China are responsible for the blood which is being shed now, while they have to be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of absolutely innocent people in Iraq and Afghanistan. Why are those who claimed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction not judged by the court? Where are they? We should not forget that the Western countries obtained permission to fly over Libya, and then they started intervening in Libya’s internal affairs and engaging troops for destroying the infrastructure of this country. We think that the U.S. and NATO must be responsible for these crimes. We believe that this country doesn’t already recognize the elementary rights of the Palestinian people and support the racist regime that has occupied Palestinian territory, and of course they must be condemned. They must answer as to why they use international organizations as their political instruments. And why, with their erroneous actions and attitude, do they discredit the Security Council and the United Nations?

“Today they want to intervene in the affairs of Syria, because Syria’s government doesn’t follow this country’s orders. And, using money and weapons, they want to bring "democracy" to Syria with the help of precisely those countries where there are no elections at all. Therefore we think that it is the U.S. that is responsible for the blood shed in Syria. Of course, if other countries will allow this leopard to do anything it wishes, they will bring the world to war and destruction. Certainly, this is already a way to bloodshed and war. Therefore this tendency must be prevented. I don’t think that Syria is under the threat of aggression, because reasonable reforms are already being implemented there. There is also the very balanced approach of the Russian Federation and China in relation to Syrian questions. I don’t think there will be any aggression. But now Russia proved that our world is not unipolar, and we should not subordinate to the single will of the U.S.

“The way the respected Mr. Lavrov was welcomed by the Syrian people shows that Syria and its people support the position of the Russian Federation. Therefore, I contend, of we don’t fall under the impact of Western propaganda, the situation in Syria will be normalized. And it is already moving in the direction of normalization. Don’t forget that those countries which accuse Iran of creating nuclear weapons and an atomic program, they themselves have colossal arsenals of nuclear weapons. They (the U.S.) were the only ones who in this life used nuclear weapons. And their crimes occur all over the world, from the Far East to Africa, and even inside the U.S. – the crimes conducted against Native Americans. This is only a history, only pretexts sometimes change. They attacked Vietnam for the struggle against Communism, they attacked Afghanistan for, so to say, the struggle against terrorism, they attack Iraq for finding weapons of mass destruction which did not exist – it was a “fairytale.” And they attack Libya for the development of “democracy.” We have openly declared that we don’t pursue any war; we are not proponents of war. And we have said many times that nuclear weapons have no place in our defensive doctrine. Our defensive doctrine is popular resistance. We showed this resistance during the war that was imposed by Iraq, against Iran. We believe that the power of the united people is stronger than any weapon”.
