Iran: Energy question should not be politicized

As the situation with Iranian nuclear program keeps escalating and Israel blames Teheran for attempts on Israeli officials’ lives in New Deli, Tbilisi and Bangkok, Makhmud Reza Sadjadi, Iranian Ambassador to Russia, gave a press-conference to comment on the recend developments and general position of his government.

Makhmud Reza Sadjadi, Iranian Ambassador to Russia:

Iran after the Islamic revolution did not put any international norms under question. It is a peaceful country, it values peaceful life, peaceful co-existence with its neighbors. Our foreign policy is based on two principles. We do not commit acts of violence against anybody and do not accept any violence. But we see that some countries in the world, in particular the USA, are trying to impose their norms and rules on other countries in order to ensure their own interests. One of their aims is to stop any development of the Islamic Republic of Iran, this concerns economic and technological development and cooperation. So that Iran will not become an example for those countries that are under American hegemony. We officially declare that our aims are peaceful, humanitarian.  And we will continue our way, despite all the threats. We are not afraid of violence, of the hegemony of America or any other country. The experience of Israel in organizing terror attacks is known in the world and here they do not recognize any principles or rules. We should not forget that in the recent past Israeli agents in the UAE organized a terror attack against

one of the leaders of the Palestinian movement at the hands of agents carrying American and European passports. With these actions the Israelis want to focus their terror attacks on Iran and want to present it as a response by the Israeli intelligence services against Iranian scientists. I read an article by a Russian citizen about the probability of this scenario, of Israel starting terrorist attacks aimed at Iran. It means that they were so frequently involved in these questions that even the Russian researchers are writing about it. But we are not answering with terror to their terror against our scientists. We will naturally respond, but in the political and economic arenas.

First the Iranian Mejlis wants to approve the law banning deliveries of Iranian oil to Europe. I believe that Europe has made a mistake, because the energy question should not be politicized. If the consumers can declare an embargo on the suppliers, then the suppliers in their turn can also use the same right. This is a political game, but the losing side is, of course, the consumers. The Iranian government, out of humanitarian principles and taking into account that this winter was very severe in Europe, temporarily postponed the approval of this law.

In the Iranian foreign doctrine there is no place for nuclear weapons. That's why we don't give estimates of when these nuclear weapons can be created. On the other hand, we hear this prognosis – between one and ten years. They repeat it every day. But they disregard the fact that if Iran wanted to create nuclear weapons, why would it sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty? We could have acted the same way as those countries that have nuclear weapons and are not members of the club. You know which countries I mean.

What the vice-premier of Israel is saying now, he is responsible for his words. We see Israel as a racist regime, an usurper, which violently seized Palestinian territories, so an illegal regime. We think similarly to how the regime of apartheid was removed in South Africa, a similar thing will happen to Israel. Our position is clear. We declare that the Israeli regime is unacceptable, so they constantly threaten us with attacks on the Bushehr power plant or any other nuclear objects of Iran to which they do not have any right.

American hegemony is now put into question only by two states – Russian and Iran. But I can assure you that the Americans will do whatever they can to break this resistance. Now the US has more debts than anybody else. We see the situation in Greece, with its multi-billion debt, we see how deplorable the situation is. And various economic limitations are imposed on this country. We see that the US has so many debts that cannot be paid for years, but billions are spent on weapons. No doubt those billions are spent on the intelligence service against Russia and Iran. Their strategy is the removal of the current regime in Iran. There is no doubt about this, because they want Iran to be a satellite of the US, as it was under the Shah. American strategy towards Russia is partition. I do not have any doubts about it, directly or indirectly they are spending hundreds of billions on that.

Iran as a big country on the southern border of Russia does not allow penetration of drugs and extremism to the Caucasus, the Caspian region or Central Asia. Iran does not allow these elements through. If Iran is subordinated to the US there will be a very wide anti-Russian front. The events in Syria, the streams of money, weapons and soldiers, then Americans will use the same methods in Russia. There are double standards towards Israel. The Americans believe that the presence of Israel in the region can allow them to control the Middle East and, with the help of Israel, install dependent governors in these countries. They do everything, no matter whether it is legal or not, to support the regime in Israel.

During the Shah's regime the Americans offered to build 23 nuclear plants in Iran, although now they say that Iran does not need nuclear plants at all and even criticize Russia for helping to construct the plant in Bushehr.  They say it can be used differently. Although every nuclear physicist will know that this nuclear plant has only peaceful purposes. I would like to say that the use of double standards by the US is everywhere. It is not only against Iran. We see that they have vetoed resolutions against Israel. Many times. We see that American President Obama promised to halt new Israeli settlements on Arab territories, he promised it, but then they started a noise about the Russian veto on the resolution against Syria. You see what a campaign they organized in the world. Or they were against 4000 civilians dying in

Libya, but then with their bombing they destroyed another 40,000. And there is no reaction to the deaths of 40,000 people, mostly urban dwellers. No reaction. American policy is based on discord and hypocrisy.
