One month before South Ossetian elections

The Central Electoral Commission of South Ossetia has finished registration of presidential candidates for the coming elections. The polls are scheduled for March 25. Almost 20 people will run for president.

Recent polls conducted by the South Ossetian presidential administration show that the republic's society is not as split as it may seem. Citizens of South Ossetia continue to behave calmly and appropriately. The presidential administration underlines that the polls were anonymous.

The polls also show that 70 per cent of the South Ossetian people condemn the opposition's activity (boycott of the authorities, the planned inauguration of Alla Dzhioyeva), while only 16 per cent support it.

75 per cent of voters say they will take part in the elections, 10 say they won't; 14 per cent are still uncertain.

Considering the results of the polls, experts say that the political situation in the republic has stabilized and that the coming presidential elections will procede in a calm atmosphere.
