Lebanon intensified its activity in the Syrian direction. The leader of the Lebanese group Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah stated that members of his organization fought in Syria and expressed his hope for their help would be useful for Bashar Assad.
Simultaneously the member of the National Council of Lebanon on Information, director of the Center for Strategic Research "New East", Ghaleb Qandil, arrived to Moscow to tell about his vision of the situation in Syria and Lebanon. “What is happening in Syria these days is the same scenario, is aimed at making the region split. In this scenario, there was the conquest of Iraq, the assassination of Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri in Lebanon, but when all attempts to split the region failed, our enemies decided to organize a large-scale offensive against Syria. This attack is aimed at Lebanon as well, because the crisis that is happening in Syria touches Lebanon, too. Those representatives of the various religious denominations that exist in Syria, are presented in Lebanon, and all of them were subject to attack by an international conspiracy headed by the United States. We are well aware that the attempt to split the region and to overthrow the legitimate authority in Syria by fundamentalist gangs is directed against Lebanon. But honest Lebanese forces help their Syrian brothers. We support the Syrians.”
According to Ghaleb Qandil, the reactionary forces are trying to use Lebanon to deploy an offensive from Lebanon to Syria: “French ships delivered mercenaries to Lebanon in order to be used against Syria. It violates all the agreements that have been reached that Lebanon should not be used as a platform for aggression against Syria. Now armed gangs who act against Syria have become a very heavy burden on Lebanon. And Israel supports our enemies.”
“I, as a Marxist, as an Arab, as a secular figure, also go into this front in the struggle for the liberation of Syria,” Ghaleb Qandil vows. “Now the question is to start a dialogue between the Syrian government and the Syrian opposition, but the opposition forces rejected the most important condition for starting the dialogue, which is the cessation of armed violence. Lebanon, unfortunately, is also paying a huge price for carrying out criminal plans against Syria. Conflicts between Sunnis and Christians are being provoked. You know that Christians make up a large part of the population in this region, which cannot be ignored. Between the Syrian people and the Lebanese people there are close links that provided the victory of our people of Lebanon against Israeli aggression. These links are attacked by our enemies. We stand, above all, for an end to armed violence against Syria. We advocate the preservation or restoration of peace in Syria, which is a state where there is a coexistence of different religions, different nationalities. In fact, the opponents of Syria do not care about any reforms for which they supposedly stand in Syria. They continue to export arms to Syria and to smuggle mercenaries there. We know and declare that the Syrian people supported the Lebanese people at all stages of the heavy historical challenges. The Syrian people have always helped the Lebanese people at all stages.”
