For several months now, a youth camp has been at work in the Georgian settlement of Anaklia, situated on the sea shore at the same place where Mikhail Saakashvili is going to build "the best resort on the
Black Sea". The location is very favourable, due to its sandy beaches and closeness to communications. Investors are lining up to throw millions of dollars into the development of this new resort, which will show Abkhazians how quickly Georgia is developing.
Anaklia lies just on the front of the battle line, near the Georgia-Abkhazian border, which is guarded by Russian soldiers. Resort facilities have been constructed in space of only one year, where 15-16 year-old teenagers can rest for free.
Mikhail Saakashvili often comes to Anaklia and plays volleyball with children, knowing that there are no Georgian military units, as Georgia has been prohibited to have any contingents except police units near its borders with Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The fact that the Georgian government is paying such attention to Anaklia shows that it wants to demonstrate to Abkhazians the efficiency of its policy and attention to such projects. Anaklia is performing a function to demonstrate that Georgia and Belarus (which hasn't recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia) are now coming closer, as dozens of youngsters from Belarus are taking their holidays in Anaklia.
