Ethnic policy becomes a priority for the Chechen authorities
In July the Chechen Center for spiritual education and development of the Republic celebrated its second anniversary. The aim of the Center is to draw the attention of the ethnic minorities of the Republic to the social life there. The center works with different peoples, publishes various materials and arranges all sorts of activities.
The speaker of the Chechen parliament, Dukvakha Abdurakhmanov, addressing a meeting of the Assembly of the Peoples of the Chechen Republic, underlined that 30 different peoples live in the republic. However, Abdurakhmanov said the negative processes of the 90s have influenced the situation in the republic. For instance, the number of Russians living in Chechnya has fallen dramatically.
The president of the Republic of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, stresses that ethnic policy is one of his main priorities. According to the president, any resident of Chechnya should be certain that their rights are secured by the State, no matter what nationality they belong to.
