Economic integration of the East of Ukraine with the Russian Federation

Economic integration of the East of Ukraine with the Russian Federation

The Russian Foreign Ministry issued another strong statement in Ukraine yeaterday evening: "The so-called authorities in Kiev persistently continue war with the people of own country. Days of mourning didn't manage to come to an end in Ukraine, declared on victims in connection with the bloody tragedy in Odessa, and in the east of Ukraine blood again flows. Ukrainian army and special forces, "Right Sector" behind a mask of National guard continue criminal operation on power compulsion of inhabitants to silent submission, who preaches nationalism and opposes to reforming of bankrupt system of public administration in the country. "Kiev organizers of terror against their own people again were urged to change their mind from Smolensk Square to stop bloodshed, to take away armies and to sit down, at last, at a negotiating table, to begin normal dialogue about ways of permission of political crisis".

Meanwhile, the Russian and Ukrainian journalist and the political consultant Anatoly Wasserman sees the future of east areas of Ukraine together with Russia: “The Ukrainian language is as integral a part of the Russian dialect spectrum as the Arkhangelsk, Belorussian, Ural, or Kursk dialects. The Ukrainian nation is an integral part of the Russian nation. Moreover, despite century-long attempts to split the Ukrainians and the rest of Russians, 5/6 of Ukrainian citizens speak Russian; they don't speak a Ukrainian dialect, but normal standard Russian. 2/3 of the Ukrainian population are Russians without the addition of the Southern Russian village culture, which is declared to be originally Ukrainian. And so on. So we are discussing the problem of a timely separated part of the Russian nation”.

About economic component, according to Wasserman, “To develop industry freely, to give industrial innovations chances to pay off, we need a market of no less than 200 million consumers in our current post-Soviet conditions. We will get the market when we finally establish the united economic space which includes at least Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine. The Donetsk Republic is economically unviable as an independent state,  and it has to join some economic union. In the last 23 years, in another and its latest chance at independence, Ukraine has proved not only that it cannot develop, but also that it doesn’t want to develop its own industry. For example, in Galicia industry was destroyed in the early post-Soviet years. In Ukraine the current Kiev accessories to the state overthrow are now preparing the destruction of several major enterprises, simply because they are closely connected with Russia. I mean the Dnepropetrovsk South Machinery Plant and the Zaporozhean Aircraft Engine Plant, but not only them. Even if the Donetsk republic remains formally politically independent, it will become a part of the all-Russian economic space”.

Wasserman thinks that “If the authorities in Kiev were legitimate, the Russian Federation would benefit from the federalization of Ukraine, as Kiev and Lvov couldn’t impose their will on the Russian majority. As there is no legal power in Kiev at the moment, but there are accessories to the state overthrow, any formats of federalization in Ukraine will lead to further depopulation of the Russian majority by the accessories to the state overthrow. They are doing this now, using their weak forces and restricted opportunities, but if the law is on their side, the depopulation will speed up. That is why we have to support the declaration of independence of the Donetsk Republic and its further reintegration into our economic space”.
