Yesterday the EU members adopted a new package of sanctions against Russia. “The sanctions are directed at changing the course of Russia’s activity on destabilization of Eastern Ukraine and contribute to development of the European Council on August 30th,” the chairman of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy said.
Sanctions will come into force in the next few days. During this time the ceasefire in Ukraine can be assessed. Depending on the situation, the EU is ready to reconsider the agreed sanctions partially or in full, according to ITAR-TASS. Meanwhile, representative of the US Department of State Jane Psaki admitted at a briefing in Washington that the ceasefire was “generally being maintained.” However, she says that the U.S. has data on separate cases of violation of the regime.
The leader of the Russian communists, Gennady Zyuganov, expressed his own point of view: “It is great that many people realized, especially inside the country, that power was captured by Banderovites in Kiev. They are Nazis, cheaters, thieves, corrupt oligarchs, and the American special services govern all of them. Poroshenko doesn't have his own advisors: two Canadians, two Englishmen or Americans, and so on. Moreover, he has American bodyguards. And the audience determines public opinion in Ukraine, where the main person is Shuster (Savik Shuster is a Ukrainian journalist (earlier Russian), the author of Shuster Live TV Program) who used to work at anti-Soviet radio stations and who is a big expert in the sphere.”
Zyuganov addressed the Russian leadership to recognize the Lugansk and Donetsk republics: “This was an official referendum conducted under emergency conditions, when the majority of citizens who live in Malorossia expressed their point of view on the state political structure, economic and political independence. Whatever they say, after the barbarian bombing of Lugansk and Donetsk and all residential areas, there can be no talks about joint actions together with the Nazi authorities who are illegally situated in Kiev.”
According to the leader of the Communist Party, “the Americans need a ditch between Russia and Ukraine; the Europeans don’t need it much, but they obey Uncle Sam and continue to fulfil his tasks, including those that are connected with sanctions. The industrial and production circles of Germany (they are tightly connected with Russia) are against the sanctions, as well as the military industrial complex of France, which has orders and understands that if it doesn’t fulfil orders, this undermines its image as a reliable partner. Some financial circles in London are also against them. 300 thousand Russian representatives live near London at the moment. They tried to resist, but failed and accept the pressure.”
Zyuganov is sure that the Ukrainian operation in the southeast “is being conducted under management of the American special forces and is directed at breaking financial and economic ties between Russia and the EU. Our trade turnover with Europe is $440 billion, while with America it is $26 billion. The Americans have to pay off their debt ($17 trillion). On the other hand, they can establish a medium-size war which wouldn’t touch them, as they live across two oceans. It happened during the Great Patriotic War: they earned $200 for each person of ours killed. On the other hand, they can capture the whole European market, which is similar to the American one in size. The ditch which is dug by them in Ukraine will enable the U.S. to fulfil these two scenarios. They will put their debt on Europe.”
However, Zyuganov urges to think about winter: “Ukraine is not ready for winter absolutely. They buy coal from South Africa, bacon from Poland – this is a shame for Ukraine.”
