The terrorist attack on Vladikavkaz, carried out on the first day of
the Islamic holiday of Eid ul-Fitr, has worsened relations between
Ossetians and Ingush. Several officials have claimed that they believe
that there was some Ingush involvement in this act of terror.
Actions against the Ingush population were carried out by local
residents in several settlements of North Ossetia. A group of young
people tried to attack the Kartsa district of Vladikavkaz, inhabited
by the Ingush diaspora of the city. The drama was prevented only due
to timely measures taken by the law-enforcement agencies.
Ingush President Yunus-bek Yevkurov has telegraphed the President of
South Ossetia that he is worried about the unfolding conflict.
According to Yevkurov, the worsening of relations between the two
peoples is dangerous for both and contributes much to the victory of
the terrorists.
The majority of experts agree with the Ingush President. It's quite
evident that the reason Ossetia was attacked by terrorists is that the
leaders of the illegal militia in Chechnya want to take revenge
against the Ossetians for their support for the Russians during the
Chechen Wars.
